Education through a Game of Bingo

As we all know, mathematics is part of our daily life. From the most basic schools which teaches arithmetic to the highest level of education, which deals with differential equations and calculus, numerals make the world go round. World events and transactions might stop if there is no mathematics. Computers would be useless without mathematics. But, do you know also that bingo is not so without numerals, too?

Today we have the type of game called the math bingo. An educational form of bingo game. We say that this is educational bingo because its main objective is to help students learn, and they do it while having fun.

In educational bingo, the teacher will distribute to students each a bingo card with arithmetic problems. The teacher then calls out problems at random. The students then answers the problems called out, instead of the usual putting marks on the squares of the bingo card. If a student reaches five correct answers in his card, then he shots "bingo" and wins. The students can play educational bingo in various forms, depending on their teachers' creativity, to make the game more exciting.

Educational bingo has gained popularity among modern teachers nowadays. Instead of making the usual lesson plans, this educational bingo attracts more the interest of students to study the subject for it will surely challenge them to win the game. Unknowingly, and without much pains in reviewing, they were able to learn facts much easier and lighter. Soon everybody in the class actively participates in educational bingo.

Aside from the great effectiveness in studying this educational bingo gives, it is also light for the teachers' pocket. Educational bingo cards are cheap and it comes not only in mathematics form, but also in forms of subjects in science and technology, history, foreign language, and even reading. The great thing about educational bingo is it is so ideal for reading subject.

The reading Bingo is pretty much the same in mechanics as the regular bingo. Students will have to find five item that will match, as called by the teacher. In matching these five items they must form a line. This line can be horizontal, vertical, or diagonal. In this kind of bingo, the traditional numbers are being replaced with words pertaining to the subject. The teacher assigns these words, out of the lessons that is to be studied for that particular period. These words can be taken for the students to memorize their meanings or to some other purposes designed by their teachers.

Adapting this educational type of teaching, we can say that bingo has evolved into a more useful and informative game.
